This Toyota Celica GT Sunchaser is #290 out of 500 built for the 1980 model year by The Griffith Company in conjunction with Toyota. The Sunchaser featured a targa-style removable roof panel as well as a foldable soft top and boot cover. The Sunchaser conversion included reinforcements the front and rear subframes as well as the windshield area.
The car reportedly remained with its original owner until 2018 and was recently bought and sold in April 2019 to a collector, from whom we just acquired the car on trade. The car is finished in Copper Metallic over a tan plaid interior. The interior is trimmed in tan leatherette with plaid inserts on the seats and door panels. The 2.2-liter 20R SOHC inline-four made approximately 90 horsepower when new and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Factory equipment includes air conditioning, power brakes, a tilt steering column, and more. Four tires were mounted and an oil change was performed approximately 500 miles ago. This Sunchaser is offered with an owner’s manual, period literature, a targa top bag, and a car cover.
